The 5 Things a Social Media Marketer Should Do in 2020

Here at Fusebox we don’t ask much from our clients as we know they have a whole lot going on!  However, they do ask a lot of us!  Which is only fair…

So the team got together last week and devised the top things we should do as we market ourselves and of course for our clients.  Tell us what you think?

1.      Tell Your Audience What You Do Even When You Think They Know

Weird right?  Well no, actually it isn’t.  We always assume people know what we do don’t we.  Sometimes it’s in the name of the business like maybe “Georges Plumbing Service”.  Then the fairly safe assumption is it’s a Plumbing Business.  However, it may not be George that comes out to see you.

Here at Fusebox, we have to remind people what we do on a fairly regular basis.  However, we are still the hub of all that goes on in our clients business.  We connect them to the power that elevates them to the next level, just like a Fusebox.

So how often should you tell your audience this?  You can do it weekly but in different ways.  You can create an infographic of what you do one week, a video the following week, a blog after that and maybe announce you have a stand at an event the week after.  Each time you’re reminding your audience, who you are and what you do.

2.     Original Imagery is a Must

This is easy if you’ve got a product, I get that completely.  You can take shots of the product on location, on shelves, at stands, with different lighting and backdrops etc.  However, if you don’t and you’re a service, then take photos as suggested below:

·      At a stand you have had or will have

·      Meeting and networking at an events

·      Speaking at a public or private event

·      Holding your brand logo or hashtag

·      From your home / office working

·      Professional Headshots

·      Traveling to and from events

All of them display you in different places, clothing times of day and even year.  These are fairly evergreen unless you change appearance greatly.

3.     Update your Social Media Bios and Story

The likelihood things have changed since last year is there.  You may have changed location, added staff, changed direction, got new products or services.

You don’t need to change just for the sake of it but well worth looking into updating your story, as people do read it.  Others have started adding the appointments capability to their Facebook Business Page.

You may want to refresh your social media banners every now and then too!

4.     Start Doing Lives or do Pre-Recorded Video

If you have products, you can stand behind the camera and talk about the product, how to use it, where to find it etc.  If you’re a service you can pretty much do videos along the same lines as suggested above.  It’s difficult when you’re a sole trader though as you’ll have to appear in it on your own but ti does get easier!

Our clients have found it easier to do the pre-recorded first for a while, it made doing the Lives so much easier.

Answering your audiences problem is the way forward though.  Ensure what your doing is formatted in such a way that it can be distributed widely too.  Try to record (if you’re using a smart phone) horizontally.  This means your video can be placed on every platform from YouTube, Facebook and even IGTV.

5.     SEO Get’s Your Business Found!

One thing we have noticed, even after all the recent Google updates, you can still get found online on your website by adding blogs and updatable sections.

By this we mean, Calendars and What’s On sections.  We know not everyone blogs, its time consuming and hard to work out what to write about.  However, if you had events coming up that your supporting or attending that could something to up date with.

If you do want to blog though, they can be very valuable for your business.  It’s a way of showing your knowledge and your business scope.  We write questions down from clients and a lot of these blogs come from those questions.  Just something to think about?
